New Mission Rules, Mac Client & More Updates

Hello SimFlyers!

This summer edition of the SimFly news brings several important updates and a brand-new video from Roberto that you won’t want to miss. Even without fancy edits or elaborate backgrounds, it’s packed with valuable information.

The first update concerns mission closure: as announced, the deployment of this rule was completed this week, so it’s already active. Once you land, you now have 60 minutes to press the End Flight button. To help prevent oversights, the system will send reminders at 30, 40, and 50 minutes; if no action is taken after one hour, the mission will be cancelled. This ensures that flight data is processed correctly by the servers and keeps operations running smoothly for everyone.

We’ve also revised the rules for rental missions: previously, you had only 1 hour from pressing “Start Flight” to take off—a limit that many pilots found too tight, especially for large aircraft with complex pre-flight preparations. Soon, exclusively for rental missions, you’ll have 2 full hours before the mission is cancelled, giving you more time to prepare without rushing. We’ll notify you as soon as this update is deployed.

Another major update, coming soon, is the introduction of realistic maximum ranges for each aircraft. We’re now in the final stages of testing. Each aircraft will use the manufacturer’s real-world specifications to determine how far it can fly while still earning XP and PAX Tokens. You’ll still be able to fly beyond that limit, but only the portion within the maximum range will be rewarded. This adds another layer of strategy when planning your routes. License timers, however, will continue running for the entire flight—so plan accordingly! Detailed specifications for each aircraft will be available in its technical sheet, and we’ll also be adding warnings before you hit the limit so you can decide whether to land early. We’ll notify you as soon as this update is deployed.

On the development side, the Mac client is now very close to official release. While fixing some compatibility issues with X-Plane, we also resolved a landing rate detection issue that affected both Mac and Windows users. Roberto personally tested the Mac client alongside Volanta to ensure the readings are accurate, and the results look great. The new version will be digitally signed for a smooth installation, and we’re excited to welcome more Apple pilots on board. If you’d like to join the beta, you can find the instructions in the Mac OS client section of the forum.

Since it’s holiday season, there will be no new aircraft releases this week (and likely not next week either). Production will resume as normal the following week.

In the video, in addition to technical insights, Roberto also answers the most upvoted questions from the AMA section.

This summer update may be simple in format, but it’s packed with important details and direct input from the person building SimFly every day. Watch the full video to get the complete picture.

See you soon,
